Emerging Cincinnati prospect becomes WVU’s 16th pledge for 2016

Nathan Niehaus of Colerain High in Cincinnati is a 6-6, 255-pound prospect who could play tight end or tackle at West Virginia.

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Only hours after receiving his Saturday afternoon offer, Cincinnati Colerain offensive tackle/tight end Nathan Niehaus committed to West Virginia.

The 6-foot-6, 255-pound rising senior has a lean build and the kind of mobility that could allow him to play either position in college. He has not received a ranking from Rivals but picked up offers this summer from Louisville, Illinois and several MAC schools. Several Big Ten programs, including Michigan State Penn State and Indiana, also have contacted Niehaus.

The commitment of Niehaus, among the MVPs at Saturday’s camp in Morgantown, was first reported by Rivals writer Keenan Cummings for WVSports.com.

New defensive line coach Bruce Tall, who returned to West Virginia in January and immediately began networking his familiar contacts throughout Ohio, served as the lead recruiter for Niehaus.

The Mountaineers have 16 commitments in the 2016 class, including two other offensive linemen—three-star prospect Josh Sills of Byesville, Ohio, and two-star Jacob Buccigrossi of Pittsburgh.

Rivals currently ranks West Virginia’s class No. 38 overall and fourth in the Big 12.
