HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — An autopsy today should reveal more into the investigation of the death of a Huntington teenager. Police found the body of Jeffrey Wright, 16, in a wooded area in the 100 block of Oakland Avenue around 3 a.m. Saturday.
Family members say Wright was shot and believe he was actually killed on Thursday morning, but not discovered until Saturday.
“The officers went back up into that area, I don’t know how they wound up there if somebody gave them information or something like that, but they went back into that area and that’s when they found him,” said Huntington Police Captain John Ellis.
Ellis would not confirm if Wright had suffered a gunshot wound, but did say there was a call of “shots fired” in the same neighborhood on Thursday morning. He said they would know more after the autopsy was complete.
“It’s an ongoing investigation and we’re trying to track down leads,” said Ellis. “To say we have a person of interest right now, I wouldn’t say that. ”
Wright’s mother, Kimberly Adams, spokes with WSAZ Television during a vigil for her son on Sunday night.
“My baby didn’t deserve to die like that,” said Adams “My baby ran for his life, and they ambushed him, and they covered him with leaves and left him just to die.”
