CLARKSBURG, W.Va. — One driver caused two accidents Monday night in Harrison County that left two children injured and another person dead.
John Franklin Jenkins, 42, of Clarksburg, allegedly had a blood-alcohol content level above the legal limit while driving a white SUV with Ohio plates along Philippi Pike in the East View area of Clarksburg at approximately 9 p.m. Monday when he ran into a car. The first accident resulted in two children suffering non-life threatening injuries and being transported to United Hospital Center.
Continuing along the road, Jenkins then lost control of the SUV, crossed the center line and collided into a Honda CRV, operated by Cherish Whaley, 26, of Anmoore. As a result of the crash, the CRV caught fire and Whaley died.
Jenkins was also transported to the hospital to be treated for injuries sustained in both collisions.
Once released, he was apprehend by authorities and charged with driving under the influence with death.
