CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Members of the Yeager Airport finance committee voted Tuesday to increase long-term parking rates at the airport by $1 a day.
Currently, long-term garage parking costs $8 per day, but committee members want to increase it to $9. Short-term parking rates will remain the same at $10 a day.
Terry Sayre, the executive director at the airport, said the additional money will go toward garage repairs.
“We need to set aside $100,000 per year in a repair and replacement account,” said Sayre. “To do that, we can perform the work in house.”
Sayre said it will also help them reduce their rates and charges to the airlines for their price per passenger.
“If we raise the parking rate $1, it’ll generate at least $200,000 in income to us and that ‘s how the money would be spent,” he said.
With the way the airport’s parking garage is set up, Sayre said most people enjoy the convenience, so he doesn’t believe the increase should have an impact on patrons.
“You can park anywhere in the garage, come out and walk in the tunnel or in the overpass over the roadway there to stay dry and stay out of the weather and it’s very convenient for our customers.”
The finance committee will bring their recommendation before the full board to have a final say at the next meeting scheduled for Aug. 26.
