ATHENS, W.Va. — Former Westside quarterback Justin Cogar has left the WVU football program and is now on the roster at Division II Concord, school officials confirmed early Monday morning.
ESPN Radio 102.3 in Hinton first reported the move.
Cogar led Westside to the Class AA semifinals during his senior season, completing 195-of-323 passes for 2,611 yards, 23 touchdowns and six interceptions. Cogar also rushed for 1,993 yards and 38 touchdowns on 249 carries.
In February opted to accept the preferred walk-on spot with West Virginia over a scholarship offer from Toledo and other D-II opportunities.
“It was a tough decision for me,” Cogar said at the time. “I had the full scholarship offer, but WVU has always been the place I wanted to play at. It’s been a dream of mine since I was a little kid. I’ve been in contact with them a lot over the whole process and I feel like it’s a good opportunity to go play there. They gave a good push for me at the end and that really influenced me a lot.”
Cogar had planned on going to WVU in July to take some summer classes and then “see where we’re at” after that. Ultimately, that ended up being the move to Concord.
