Beckley mayor recovering after being hit by car

BECKLEY, W.Va. — Beckley Mayor Bill O’Brien was said to be “resting comfortably” on Wednesday, a day after a vehicle hit him outside of Beckley’s Linda K. Epling Stadium.

The West Virginia Miners had played a baseball game there.

O’Brien was initially treated at Raleigh General Hospital for what was reported as either a leg or ankle injury. He was not listed as a patient there on Wednesday morning.

There were no indications early Wednesday of whether charges would be filed against the driver of the vehicle that struck O’Brien.

The Raleigh County Sheriff’s Department was handling the investigation.

O’Brien, a longtime broadcaster who’s now retired, took over as mayor of Beckley in January 2014.
