Huntington student facing felony charges after allegedly punching principal

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — A Huntington High School student was arrested on felony charges Thursday after punching the principal during a school bus incident, police said.

The 17-year-old had been asked by Principal Gregg Webb to come to the front of the bus when, according to police, he punched Webb in the face. After a school-employed officer handcuffed the teenager, he allegedly kicked another administrator in the groin.

The student threatened to kill Webb and the officer, and to blow up the school using a variety of weapons, police said. The boy’s guardian said he had been struggling with the death of a friend and had taken pain pills.

Cabell County Schools released a statement about the incident:

“We had a serious student behavior issue on Monday that is being addressed by the Board of Education and City of Huntington Police Department. We received a complaint from a guardian about how the situation was handled by school staff. That will also be investigated.”

The teen faces felony charges of terroristic threats and two misdemeanor battery counts of a school employee.
