CLARKSBURG, W.Va. — A Marion County man who skipped town after learning state police were investigating sex abuse allegations against him was arrested Friday by U.S. Marshals in Vermont.

Robert Richards, 66, was taken into custody without incident in St. Johnsberry, Vt.

An alleged 5-year-old victim told authorities Richards sexually abused her several times while babysitting.

The West Virginia state police’s Crimes Against Children Unit found a U-Haul pickup truck Richards rented in Charleston.

A tip to police Thursday led marshals to Vermont.

Richards is scheduled to appear in a Vermont court before he’s extradited to West Virginia.
