Extradition set for Marion Co. sex abuse suspect who fled to Vermont

FAIRMONT, W.Va. — State police expect an accused child abuser who fled Marion County to be back in West Virginia later this week.

Robert Richards, 66, was arrested in St. Johnsberry, Vermont Friday. Sgt. Adam Scott, West Virginia State Police Crimes Against Children Unit, will travel to Vermont Tuesday.

Richards and the woman he was staying with will be questioned before the suspect is returned to West Virginia Thursday.

A 5-year-old girl told authorities Richards sexually abused her several times while babysitting.

According to Scott, Richards is originally from Vermont.
