Hazmat team cleaning up spill after wreck in Monongalia County

DAYBROOK, W.Va. — A hazmat team was called to the Daybook area of Monongalia County Thursday afternoon.

Oil and diesel fuel was reportedly leaking into Shriver Run. First responders found a 1-ton dually box truck overturned near 54 Blue Goose Road.

Blacksville Volunteer Fire Department and West Virginia State Police were on scene for several hours.

Two booms had been placed in the creek to absorb the chemicals and keep them from contaminating water downstream.

But, the spill was severe enough to require additional booms to absorb the fuel and oil leading to requests from the Monongalia County Hazardous Material Team.

The Department of Environmental Protection was notified per protocol.

That accident was reported just after 2 p.m.
