Entering his fourth season as starting kicker and punter for Coach Darren Grace’s Trojans, Staley earned 2014 Class AAA all-state football honors as a junior. He was a Cumberland Times News all-area selection as a sophomore and junior, and has been named to the watch list for the 2015 Fulton Walker Award by the West Virginia Sports Writers Association.

Staley has been selected as one of Kohl’s Kicking’s Top 50 kickers/punters in the nation, and participated in the Kohl’s National Underclassman Challenge earlier this year. He is also a three-year member of the Trojan’s basketball program, serving as a team captain, and a member of the Hampshire High golf team.

On a community level, Evan is actively involved in volunteer and service activities in the Hampshire County area through his church and Hampshire High, including Samaritan’s Purse, Warm the Children, Relay For Life, and Food Boxes for the Hungry. He is an active 4-H member, serving as a Teen Leader for five years and participating in local and community leadership and service activities.

Evan hopes to continue his athletic career on the collegiate level, with several NCAA Division I FBS programs showing recruiting interest. He plans to pursue a degree and career in the health care field.

During the 2015 Fall Sports season, one high school student athlete will be selected each week as the AARP West Virginia Scholar Athlete of the Week and recognized on the popular West Virginia MetroNews High School GameNight program, which airs 9:30 p.m. – midnight each Friday night on nearly 40 radio stations across the Mountain State.

West Virginia student athletes in Grades 11 and 12 with a minimum 3.0 grade point average are eligible for the award. Nominees should excel in one or more athletic program, and be active within their community through service and community involvement. Nomination forms may be completed online by clicking here.
