MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — West Virginia cornerback target Therran Coleman chose his hometown Pitt Panthers during a Sunday night announcement on Pittsburgh television.
The three-star prospect from Brashear High School had visited WVU four times in recent months, but wound up becoming another local commitment for the newly assembled staff of Pat Narduzzi.
West Virginia, which has one cornerback committed for 2016 but would like to sign at least two more, is among the leaders for Ohio three-star recruits Sean Mahone and Tony Butler.
“I think West Virginia has a really good shot with both of them,” said Keenan Cummings, senior writer for WVSports.com of he Rivals network.
“With Mahone, it’s pretty much down to WVU or Virginia,” he said. “West Virginia is in a really good spot with (Butler), but he’s going to go to Arizona State on an official visit in September before he plans to commit on Oct. 5. No one knows how that trip is going to affect his decision.”
Butler previously made unofficial visits to West Virginia and Clemson this summer.
