Tomblin talks roads at Summit appearance

WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS, W.Va. — Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin touched on several familiar themes when he spoke with business owners Wednesday at the West Virginia Chamber of Commerce’s annual business summit at the Greenbrier Resort.

Businesses need a good transportation system, Tomblin said.

“I know many are troubled by the quality of our state’s roads,” Tomblin said.

He told those in the large crowd the state Division of Highways is spending a record $300 million on pothole repairs and repaving projects. The governor said he realizes more must be done.

Tomblin also touched on working toward a drug free workforce and the state’s new initiative to battle truancy in public schools.

The summit continues Thursday with appearances from U.S. Senators Joe Manchin and Shelley Moore Capito along with former Vice President Dick Cheney.
