BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. — Examiners have officially identified a body found dead at a car wash earlier this month as that of a former Division of Highways worker named in a federal indictment.
Harrison County Sheriff Albert Marano confirmed Thursday that they had received the results of an autopsy conducted on Bob Andrew, 77, of Bridgeport, from the state Medical Examiner’s Office.
Andrew died of a single gunshot wound to the head and was found by his family at the Burnside Car Wash just outside Bridgeport city limits at approximately 10:30 p.m. on September 1, according to the Sheriff’s Department.
Earlier that day, he was named in a 43-page federal corruption indictment.
Federal prosecutors claim Andrew created a “culture of corruption” at the DOH’s equipment division in Buckhannon, where Andrew served as director for 16 years. He is alleged to have ordered state workers to conduct political work on state time, rigged bids, and ordered the illegal sell of surplus vehicles and equipment.
