DOH programmer captured near Boston following Putnam County murder

TEAYS VALLEY, W.Va. — Massachusetts State Police say they arrested a Putnam County man Friday in connection with a Thursday evening murder.

Philip Casto, 33, was charged with first degree murder in the shooting death of Jennifer Evans, 27, of Hurricane.

Police said Casto was captured without incident at the South Shore Plaza in Braintree, Mass. near Boston.

Evans was found dead by her husband Thursday evening at their apartment on Hospital Road in Teays Valley, Putnam County Sheriff Steve Deweese said.

“Around 5:23 our dispatch received a call from the husband that he came home and found his wife deceased with a gunshot wound to the head,” Deweese told MetroNews early Friday morning.

Casto was named as a person of interest in connection to Evans death.

Officials with the State Division of Highways confirmed Casto works in the programming department at the agency headquarters at the state Capitol. He has worked for the DOH for approximately three years.
