Marshall graduate transfer TyQuane Goard withdraws from WVU

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — TyQuane Goard, who transferred from Marshall to West Virginia this summer and saw brief action during last month’s exhibition trip to the Bahamas, has withdrawn from school and reportedly is pursuing a pro career overseas.

A program source confirmed Goard’s departure Friday.

The 6-foot-7 forward was projected to play a backup role to Jonathan Holton, potentially fronting WVU’s full-court press. Because the Mountaineers had allocated all their scholarships for next season, Goard joined the program as a walk-on.

After receiving an NCAA waiver in July that cleared him to play immediately for the Mountaineers as a graduate transfer, Goard sounded excited about contributing on a team coming off a Sweet 16 appearance.

“I just want to play basketball my last year, so I’m not really too worried about the scholarship,” he said in August.

The former George Washington High School star began his college career at Ohio before transferring to Marshall, where he averaged 6.3 points and 4.7 rebounds per game during the 2013-14 season. Goard was dismissed by coach Dan D’Antoni last October but remained in school and graduated with a health sciences degree.
