Huntington council to consider $5 user fee

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — First reading of a proposed ordinance to increase the $3 a week user fee in Huntington to $5 a week goes before Huntington City Council Monday night.

The increase would generate $3 million in additional funding for the city’s street paving program and police department.

Huntington announced last year plans to hire 10 additional police officers. The city’s street department also recently detailed more than $6 million in road needs.

If approved, everyone who works in Huntington would be required to pay $5 a week, $260 a year, which would be the most expensive municipal user fee in the state.
