MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — In Monongalia County court Wednesday, a magistrate heard enough evidence to refer a sexual assault claim against a WVU student on to a grand jury.
Sean Douglas Innerst, 19, of Morgantown was charged with second-degree sexual assault, punishable by 10 to 25 years in prison, September 8.
The victim told police she met Innerst at a party over Labor Day, had several drinks and went to his room. She accused Innerst of forcing himself on her and having sex without her consent at the Phi Sigma Epsilon house on Belmar Avenue.
A WVU spokesperson explained the student discipline process in a statement to WAJR.
“The Office of Student Conduct meets with students who violate the law and are involved in other offenses (like academic cheating, etc.). There are various sanctions, up to expulsion, depending on the outcome of those hearings, but we can’t talk about a specific case or incident due to privacy laws.”
According to the university, the Phi Sigma Epsilon house is not on campus property.
