Mountaineers slated for bigger TV exposure vs. Oklahoma State on Oct. 10

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — West Virginia still doesn’t know which network will carry its Oct. 10 home game against Oklahoma State, but it’s guaranteed to be one of the big boys.

Most matchups are slotted at least two weeks in advance, but FOX has exercised a six-day window for next week, allowing it to absorb this Saturday’s results before finalizing the lineup.

The potential start times and networks for West Virginia-Oklahoma State:

• 3:30 p.m. Eastern on ABC/ESPN
• 7 p.m. Eastern on ABC/ESPN
• 7:30 p.m. Eastern on FOX

If the No. 23 Mountaineers upset No. 15 Oklahoma this Saturday, West Virginia almost certainly will host the Cowboys in prime time. But any of the options provide better exposure than FoxSports 1, which missed out on a half-hour of West Virginia-Maryland while concluding the NASCAR Camping World truck race Saturday afternoon.

While the major networks (FOX and ABC) reach more than 114 million American homes, ESPN and ESPN2 exceed 94.3 million (81 percent), according to the most recent figures. FoxSports1 appears in 84.8 million homes (72 percent) and FoxSports2—where the opening of the Maryland game was shifted temporarily—reaches only 45 million (39 percent).
