Deegan court hearing postponed in Parkersburg

PARKERSBURG, W.Va. — A preliminary hearing for a Wood County man charged with allegedly plotting to overthrow state government was postponed Monday.

Thomas David Deegan, 39, of Mineral Wells, didn’t have an attorney. One was appointed by the court Monday.

The preliminary hearing has been rescheduled for Oct. 15 at 2:30 p.m., Wood County Prosecutor Jason Wharton said.

Deegan has been in jail since Sept. 24 the day police said he planned to remove multiple state leaders from their offices at the state capitol.

Deegan is a self-proclaimed sovereign citizen, police said.
