Alpha sends WARN notices to 92 miners

NAOMA, W.Va. — Alpha Natural Resources sent WARN notices to 92 miners at its Edwight Source Mine and Independence Coal Co.’s Tunnel Mine operations in Raleigh County earlier this month.

A letter dated Oct. 1 but received Tuesday by state and local officials cites “adverse market conditions” as the reason for idling both mines.

Nov. 30 will be the last day of operations for all operations at Edwight Source. Independence will shut down all tunnel mining operations.
