1 dead and 1 injured after Wheeling shooting

WHEELING, W.Va. — Wheeling police are investigating a shooting that left one man dead and another injured early Friday morning.

Lemroy Coleman, 33, of the Ohio Valley area, was found face-down in an alley near 15th Street in downtown Wheeling where the shooting took place at around 1 a.m. Police said medics rushed Coleman to Ohio Valley Medical Center where he later died of a gunshot wound.

Police are not releasing the name of the injured victim, but say the person has already been released from the hospital.

Sgt. Gregg McKenzie of the Wheeling Police Department told MetroNews no motive has been determined, but the investigation has lead them to believe the two who were shot knew each other.

“There was some type of confrontation at a business in that area and, as a result, these two guys ended up getting shot,” said McKenzie.

Police continue to look for the suspect, but say they have some leads in the case.

“We have some ideas and we’re working on those and following up with leads on that,” McKenzie said. “We’ve recovered a good bit of evidence and we’re getting some calls into the office about possible people, vehicles and stuff like that.”

McKenzie said the injured victim came into Wheeling Police Headquarters said he had been shot and “asked if his buddy had died.”

The public is urged to contact police with any tips concerning the incident.
