Appalachian Trail hiker dies in fall

ANNAPOLIS ROCK, Md. — A 44-year-old hiker died on the Appalachian Trail Sunday morning after falling off of Annapolis Rock

The Baltimore Sun identified the man was as Alexei Likhtman of the United Kingdom.

Officials say Likhtman was hopping from rock to rock taking pictures at the time of the incident.

He apparently lost his balance and fell about 45 feet.

Despite efforts to save him made on scene Likhtman was pronounced dead at about noon.

The trail is in South Mountain State Park, about 5 miles north of Boonsboro, Md. near Jefferson County.
