Governor orders flags lowered Wednesday in honor of Staff Seargent

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin all U.S. and State flags lowered at state-owned facilities Wednesday for the memorial service of Staff Sergeant Ryan Hammond.

Hammond was a 2007 graduate of John Marshall High School and served in the U.S. Air Force since then. Hammond died on Oct. 2.

“Joanne and I were truly saddened to hear of the death of one of West Virginia’s brave service men,” Tomblin said in a release. “We join all West Virginians as we mourn the loss of Staff Sergeant Hammond, and we extend our deepest and most heartfelt sympathies to his family, friends and fellow comrades who continue their mission overseas.”
