FAIRMONT, W.Va. — A woman has been arraigned in Marion County for a deadly shooting at a residence in Fairmont.
Alma Jean Barnett, 46, has been charged with first-degree murder, accused of shooting Carol Lynn Zurasky at a residence on 10th Street. Police responded to a reported shorting at 8:01 p.m. Sunday at 211 10th Street, Apt. 3 where Zurasky was declared dead at the scene.
Barnett admitted to police to killing Zurasky with a single shot to the head with a .22-caliber revolver after Zurasky entered Barnett’s apartment, according to Fairmont Police Chief Steven Shine.
“There was no sign of a struggle or this being a self-defense shooting,” said Shine.
Zurasky and Barnett knew each other and witnesses reported the two women, who had been drinking, had an argument earlier in the evening at a different location, although Shine did not elaborate on what the disagreement was about. Shine stated witnesses who saw the prior argument said Barnett threatened to shoot Zurasky.
Shine added Barnett made the initial call to 911.
