Police shootout with fugitives leaves Braxton County man dead

ORLANDO, W.Va. — Lawmen killed a federal fugitive during a shootout Monday afternoon in Braxton County, state police said.

The West Virginia state police’s Special Operations Unit joined U.S. Marshals in a wooded area near Three Lick Road on the Braxton-Lewis county line in an attempt to arrest an unidentified woman who was a federal fugitive.

She was with a man later identified as another fugitive, Dale Maverick Hudson, 26, of Burnsville. He was wanted for a burglary charge in another state, troopers said.

When police found them, they ordered the pair to surrender but the woman and Hudson fired weapons. When officers returned fire, Hudson was killed at the scene. The woman suffered multiple wounds and was taken by helicopter to Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown.
