DAVIS, W.Va. Another section of the Corridor H Highway will be opened to traffic later this week. A ceremony is scheduled for Thursday afternoon near the Grant-Tucker county line.
It’s a nearly three-mile section, according to state Transportation Secretary Paul Mattox.
Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin and others will be on hand for the ceremony set for 1 p.m. near Mount Storm. The work on the project began more than two years ago.
The DOH opened bids last month on the next major section of construction, 7.5 miles from Kerens to the 219 Connector. That’s part of the Kerens to Parsons stretch that will total about 15.5 miles.
Congress is getting closer to approving a six-year highway funding bill, which would be a big boost to the Corridor H project, Mattox said.
“A six-year program would certainly go a long way toward completing the next section,” he said.
The Kerens to Parsons section, which will be done in three projects, is scheduled to be completed sometime in 2019. It’s the first section of the highway to use the Public-Private Partnership method for financing, an option Gov. Tomblin announced earlier this year.
