Sentencing of former Berkeley County Sheriff’s Capt. Continued

MARTINSBURG – W.Va. — The sentencing of former Berkeley County Sheriff’s Department Captain Dennis Streets, 54, has been continued until next week.

Streets was initially due to be sentenced last month on an embezzlement conviction stemming from the theft and sale of 13 department owned firearms between 2008 and 2013.

Streets’ attorney made a motion for a new trial based on what he called attacks on his client’s character by the prosecution.

Streets was scheduled to be sentenced Thursday afternoon, although a Berkeley County judge had not ruled out over turning his conviction and granting him a new trial.

The case was continued until Nov. 25.
