POINT PLEASANT, W.Va. — Class AAA No. 2 Point Pleasant (12-0) made a resounding statement for those questioning its unbeaten record due to schedule strength. The Big Blacks dominated perennial AAA power and No. 7 Huntington (9-3) from start to finish, 49-0.
Point Pleasant capitalized on four early Huntington turnovers and cashed in with Cody Mitchell’s 267 rushing yards and four total scores.

“Everybody came out and played hard,” Mitchell said. “We’ve been working all week and I have to give it to my line – they blocked phenomenal. I had holes everywhere and they were getting the job done up front.”
It’s the first trip to the Class AAA semifinals for Point Pleasant since 1979 – the Big Blacks had fallen one win short of that feat in each of the previous two seasons. Point Pleasant played for the championship out of Class AA back in 2011.
“This is a big round for us, there’s no doubt about it,” said Point Pleasant coach David Darst. “We’re in new territory in Class AAA and our kids aren’t ready to quit. They’re excited about it and right now it’s just a special team. Our kids seem to be playing especially hard and there wasn’t an empty seat tonight – it was packed everywhere and seeing that crowd really jacked our kids up.”
