HAMLIN, W.Va. — West Virginia State Police and Frontier Communications have responded to multiple copper communications cable thefts since the end of October in Lincoln County.
The most recent theft occurred this past weekend. All have occurred within a 3 to 4 mile radius in the Harts area of Lincoln County near the Logan County line.
The thefts have occurred along Green Shoals Road, Limestone Branch Road and a section of Big Ugly Creek Road.
“These types of thefts are significant because it leaves our customers without telephone and internet service, preventing them from using their landline phone in the event of an emergency for Fire, EMS or Police services,” said Bryan Stover with Frontier Corporate Security. “Rural areas like this have limited cell phone coverage and many people rely on their landline phones. Many elderly folks don’t even have cell phones.”
Anyone with information related to these incidents is encouraged to contact the Hamlin Detachment of the West Virginia State Police at 304-824-3101.
