Will we have an all-Hardy County championship game in Class A?
It’s possible, with both No. 2 East Hardy and No. 4 Moorefield playing in state semifinals this weekend.
No. 11 St. Marys (10-2) at No. 2 East Hardy (11-1), Saturday, 7:30 p.m.
East Hardy won a back-and-forth affair in the quarterfinals versus No. 7 Wheeling Central, 16-14, on Nick Miller’s 21-yard field goal with 44 seconds left.
Corey McDonald completed 12 of 23 passes for 164 yards and also ran a touchdown.
Jesse Miller ran for a TD as part of a 15-carry, 106-yard day.
East Hardy is in the semifinals for the second time in school history, having lost to Wheeling Central, 37-14, in 2011.
St. Marys, who upset No. 3 South Harrison, 37-0, last week, lost last year’s championship game in triple overtime to Williamstown, 33-32.
No. 4 Moorefield (11-1) at No. 1 Magnolia (12-0), Saturday, 1:30 p.m.
Moorefield rushed for 322 yards in last week’s 55-26 win over No. 12 Tug Valley.
Wil Schoonover again showed the way, rushing 23 times for 212 yards and two touchdowns.
Quarterback Shane Myers rushed for four short-yardage scores.
Moorefield is in the semifinals for the 11th time in school history, but the first since 2004.
Their last trip to the championship game was in 2003, when they defeated Williamstown, 20-18.
Magnolia, who won a thriller against Williamstown last week, 14-13, was tripped up in the semis in 2012 and 2013. The Blue Eagles have been led by Nick Priem at quarterback, Chase Street and Tyler Anderson on the ground, while Brooks Parsons and Kyle Ritz lead the way catching the football.
