Hunters arrested for illegal activity in Summers County

GREEN SULPHUR SPRINGS, W.Va. — Several hunters from three different states were arrested Wednesday night for illegal activity in Summers County.

The hunters were identified as Charles Powell from New Jersey, Kenneth Powell from Pennsylvania, and Robert Canfield, Charley Simms and Timothy Powell from West Virginia.

The men were pulled from the hunting camp in Green Sulpher Springs for allegedly killing 18 deer without intending to check them, according to officials with the state Division of Natural Resources.

Charges varied from spotlighting, to no licenses/stamps, to safety violations, to driving with loaded firearms. Fines totaled up to more than $10,000.

All deer seized were donated to citizens of Summers County.
