Shoppers camp out early to save big on Black Friday deals

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Black Friday shoppers in were out at the stores as early as Thursday morning to get the best bang for their buck this holiday season.

Customers headed out to the Best Buy on Corridor G in Kanawha County as early as 4:30 a.m. Thanksgiving Day.

Tiffany Swisher, of Jackson County, said she arrived at the Best Buy on Corridor G in Charleston at 5:30 a.m. The store was scheduled to open at 5 p.m.

“It’s fun. You always try to get the deals and it’s just a fun experience if you’ve never done it,” she said.

Swisher, her fiance and her friend were third in line. Even though they had to stake it out for several hours, she said there’s several advantages to arriving early.

“You don’t have the mad dash to get whatever you want. You don’t have to try to fight for it,” she said.

Black Friday shopping is typically an annual event for Swisher. This year, she had her eyes on the 49-inch Toshiba LED 1080p HDTV.

Amanda Harrison, of Kanawha County, was further down the line and said she wanted the same television.

“Other TVs are running more for smaller TVs. You’re paying more for a 32-inch than you do the 49-inch basically,” Harrison said about the deal she hoped to get.

Best Buy is selling the television for $149.99, which is a savings of $280. The original price is $429.

“We weren’t intending on being out here,” Harrison said about showing up to the store early. “We just drove out here this morning and people were already here, so we stayed.”

Shoppers in line were also hoping to grab their hands on several other items including the Beats by Dr. Dre headphones, wireless chargers, heaters, DVDs and more.

Is Best Buy the only store they’ll shop at this weekend? Swisher said this is just the beginning for her.

“We’re going to Cabella’s and staying all night there,” she said.
