Victims identified in fatal Thanksgiving Day accident in Harrison County

GORE, W.Va. — The man killed in a Thanksgiving Day accident in Harrison County was from Marion County.

Michael Mathena, 30, was a passenger in a pickup truck that was struck along Route 19 in Gore around 3 p.m. yesterday.

He died at Ruby Memorial Hospital from injuries in the wreck near Jordan Auto Parts.

The driver, Robert McCann, and two other passengers, Cecily Matthews and Raven Moore, were treated at United Hospital Center.

According to the Harrison County Sheriff’s Department, Robert Skidmore, 25, was driving the truck that hit Mathena and the others head on.

Skidmore’s truck allegedly sideswiped the pick-up after passing an SUV in front of him.

Skidmore and his passenger Justin Boley were also treated at UHC.

Route 19 was shut down for several hours while crews worked to clear the wreckage.

The incident remains under investigation by the Harrison County Sheriff’s Department.

Potential charges are pending.
