HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — Marshall basketball assistant coach Chris Duhon, charged with aggravated DUI after police found him asleep at the wheel early Monday morning, was suspended by the university.
Putnam County sheriff’s deputies discovered Duhon on Limestone Drive in the Cedar Hills subdivision, according to the criminal complaint. He was asleep in the driver’s seat with the engine of his Ford Escape running.
Deputies detected the strong odor of alcohol and observed Duhon’s eyes were red and glassy and his speech slow and slurred. Duhon allegedly failed three field sobriety tests and a preliminary breath test.
He was taken to the Putnam County Courthouse for processing where another breath test was administered which revealed a blood-alcohol content of .202, more than twice the legal limit.
The former Duke basketball standout was booked at the Western Regional Jail at 4:15 a.m. and was released after posting $1,000 bond.
Marshall’s athletic department released a statement Monday noting Duhon’s suspension for a violation of department rules and policies. The department said there would be no further comment.
Duhon won a national championship in 2001 with Duke and spent nine seasons in the NBA.
He was the first addition to head coach Dan D’Antoni’s staff in 2014.
