Pocahontas County murder victims were a retired state trooper and his wife

MARLINTON, W.Va. — State police say the victims in the weekend double murder in Pocahontas County were a retired state trooper and his wife.

Tim and Shawn McDaniels, both 59, were found dead in their home near Marlinton Friday afternoon. Troopers began looking for their grandson, Aaron Bussard, 22, of Marlinton, as a person of interest and on charges that he allegedly stole the couple’s car.

Reports from Allegheny County, Va., indicated a stun gun was used to subdue Bussard who had first been spotted at a gas station near Covington, Va. Saturday morning. He remains in custody in Virginia.

A request for a welfare check sent troopers to the Crow Hill Drive home where the two bodies were found Friday afternoon.

Tim McDaniels took a medical retirement from the State Police in following an injury in a gunfight. He was awarded a  Purple Heart.
