HUNTNGTON, W.Va. — Marshall University’s Board of Governors will host an event on Wednesday to welcome its 37th president, Dr. Jerome Gilbert.
Gilbert was named president on Oct. 20 and will assume his new position at the beginning of the new year. Marshall had conducted a lengthy search for a new president since the death of Stephen Kopp last December.
Gary White has served as the interim president since Kopp’s death.
The program will begin at 2 p.m. in the Joan C. Edwards Performing Arts Center, and will feature some brief remarks from Gilbert, as well as White and Board of Governors Chairman Michael Sellards.
A Mississippi native with a background in biomedical engineering, Gilbert has served since 2010 as provost and executive vice president of Mississippi State University.
Gilbert earned a bachelor’s degree in biological engineering from Mississippi State and a doctorate in biomedical engineering from Duke.
The welcome event and reception are open to the community.
