Monongalia deputy cleared in fatal shooting

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — An internal review has cleared a Monongalia County deputy involved in a deadly shooting last month on Charles Avenue in Morgantown.

Officers were serving search and arrest warrants at the residence when they encountered David Romanoski, 48, allegedly armed with a shotgun. Romanoski was shot and killed.

Sheriff’s officials say no department procedures or policies were violated. The deputy has been on administrative leave since the incident.

Issac Barker and Justin Knisell were later arrested on first-degree robbery charges, the warrants police were trying to serve when Romansoki was shot and killed.

Barker was arrested by U-S Marshals in New Orleans. Officials expect him to be back in Monongalia County this week to face charges.
