Thundering Herd players to hold annual toy drive

BARBOURSVILLE, W.Va. — The Marshall University football team and Coach Doc Holliday will once again put on the Thundering Herd’s annual toy drive.  Coach Holliday started the activity three years ago and it has become a Marshall tradition.

“Our kids really enjoy doing it,” he said in a recent appearance on MetroNews Talkline. “We take our truck we travel with, a semi-trailer truck out there, and we try to fill it up.  It puts a lot of smiles on a lot of kids’ faces in the Huntington and Tri-State area that otherwise wouldn’t happen.”

The drive will be from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Barboursville Wal-Mart.  The Marshall tractor trailer will be there accepting donations of toys.  Members of the football team will also be on hand helping to accept and load the toys.  Holliday said the team loves to do it.

“Our kids are all through the mall there with the fans and go in and get the toys and load them up,” said Holliday. “Not just our fans, but the entire state of West Virginia has been so responsive and it goes to a great cause.”
