Monongalia County blaze requires 4 fire companies, dozens of volunteers

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Flames and smoke were reportedly visible from I-79 and Dorsey’s Knob from a fire in a Monongalia County housing development.

The home in Ashton Estates caught fire before 6:30 a.m. Saturday.

Four fire companies and multiple tanker trucks were needed at the scene.

Granville, Triune-Halleck, Clinton and Cool Springs departments arrived before 7:00 a.m.

“Within minutes there was probably six trucks on the road,” explained Tiffany Kalbaugh. “There response was phenomenal especially for 6:00 a.m. on a Saturday morning. There’s probably every bit of 15 guys this morning.” Kalbaugh’s husband is the assistant fire chief for Triune-Halleck VFD.

Neighbors said the homeowner noticed the fire on a back deck in the area of a hot tub.

The fire was hot enough and houses were close enough to melt siding on a home next door.

The homeowner and neighbors tried to use extinguishers and water hoses to douse the flames, but it spread quickly across the wooden porch and into the backĀ of the Ashton Drive home.

There were no injuries reported.
