Ohio man arrested in WV after discovery of crack cocaine, guns and cash

FAIRMONT, W.Va. — An Ohio man, living in north central West Virginia less than a week, faces felony drug charges.

Deputies investigating a wreck and abandoned car on Route 310 in Marion County Monday at 3:00 a.m. quickly came across signs of something more.

“Deputies arrived on scene and recovered a stolen handgun on the floor board of the wrecked vehicle along with a crack rock on the center console while determining who owned the vehicle,” explained Chief Deputy Ralph Wright, Marion County Sheriff’s Department.

A domestic violence call to 911 dispatchers within minutes of when police arrived at the wreck required deputies at a residence less than a quarter of a mile from the crash scene.

A man matching the description of the run-away driver was discovered at the Shady Lane home along with more signs of drug trafficking.

“In plain view, (deputies) discovered a large quantity of sandwich bags that had the corners torn from them which is consistent with the packaging of narcotics. Also, located in plain view was a set of digital scales, several cell phones and a large sum of money,” Wright recounted.

Through a search warrant, investigators found an estimated $65,000 worth of drugs.

“Inside that safe, they recovered a pound and a half of crack cocaine and another handgun,” Wright added. “There was some stolen property that we believe was also recovered.”

Johnny D. Floyd, Sr. of Cincinnati was arrested and charged with possession with intent to deliver crack cocaine.

Floyd was taken to the North Central Regional Jail.
