Record warmth recorded in Charleston for December

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The mild December was one for the record books, according to the National Weather Service.

The record high average temperature for the last month of the year was broken in Charleston and nearly broken in Huntington.

It was an average of 49.6 degrees in Charleston for the 31 days, which shattered the previous record of 47.4 degrees set back in December 1918.

Huntington barely missed its average record high for the month. It was an average of 48.3 degrees there last month. The record of 48.6 degrees set in December 1913 still stands.
