Preps underway for Tomblin’s final State of State Address

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin and staff will be working hard this week on the governor’s final State of the State Address that will be delivered during the opening night of the legislative session next week.

The state faces a number of challenges, most connected to revenues that are struggling because of a major downturn in coal. The governor will meet those challenges head on during the 60-day session, Tomblin administration Press Secretary Shayna Varner said.

“This is his last session as governor but I think he’s going to surprise some people,” she said. “He’s ready to get to work and his last year as governor certainly isn’t going to stall that.”

Tomblin will outline that plan in the State of the State Address where there will be time spent looking back at the accomplishes during the last year and looking ahead, Varner said.

“As his last State of the State the governor has certainly tasked us with coming up with a bold plan,” she said.

The Tomblin speech will take place in the House Chamber before a joint session of the legislature at shortly after 7 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 13.
