MARION COUNTY, W.Va. — A supervisor was injured at a coal mining facility early Tuesday morning in after what is initially believed to be a rockslide.
It happened at the The Margaret Portal, part of Murray Energy’s Harrison County Coal Company at around midnight, according to dispatchers.
HealthNet was called to the scene and a landing pad for the helicopter was established at Margaret Road in Marion County.
The victim, only identified as a male superviosr at this time, was then transported to Ruby Memorial Hospital.
An official statement was released from Murray Tuesday afternoon indicates he only sustained minor injuries:
“The Harrison County Coal Company confirms that a supervisor sustained minor injuries last night. He has been taken to a medical facility for observation and we expect that he will return to work in due course. Safety is, and always has been, the absolute highest priority at The Harrison County Coal Company.”
MSHA will lead an investigation into the incident.
