NEW RICHMOND, W.Va. — Wyoming East girls basketball coach Angie Boninsegna recently joined the MetroNews High School Sportsline to break down her team’s undefeated start to the season.
The Warriors entered this week at 11-0 overall, led by sophomore standout Gabby Lupardus.
“Gabby is such a special player and is the epitome of a point guard,” Boninsegna said. “She does so much for us, whether she’s making the shot or the pass. She gets our team going and is so involved. She’s a special player who doesn’t come around very often.
Wyoming East lost in the semifinals of the state tournament last year to eventual AA champion Sissonville, 55-54, in a dramatic finish.
“With that heartbreaking loss and the way they felt last year, we were so close,” Boninsegna said. “Offensively we were a little bit out of sync that game, but the effort and heart were there. Our players are trying to do everything they can to avoid having to feel that way again this season.”
