Fayette County man arrested for sexually assaulting mentally challenged man

FAYETTEVILLE, W.Va. — The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Fayette County man for a series of alleged sexual assaults on Thursday.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, John Travis Perry, 29, of Scarbro faces ten counts of second degree sexual assault.

Perry allegedly abused a mentally challenged adult man in the Oak Hill area of Fayette County. The victim came forward in June 2015.

During the investigation, the victim told police he had been assaulted on at least ten occasions by Perry in the Collinwood Mobile Home Park where the victim and suspect both resided at the time.

Due to the “low level of mental functioning,” police conducted their interviews with the assistance of Just For Kids, Inc. Child and Youth Advocacy Center in Oak Hill.

According to the criminal complaint, the victim never provided consent to Perry.

Before the investigation began, Perry had moved out of the area. Police were not able to locate and interview him until this month.

Perry was arraigned in Magistrate Court and released on a $150,000 bond.

The investigation remains ongoing.
