Gilliam appointed to Brigadier General in the West Virginia National Guard

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Harrison B. “H.B.” Gilliam of Huntington was appointed to Brigadier General in the West Virginia National Guard at a ceremony in Charleston Friday.

“H.B.’s service has earned him the respect of government officials, military superiors, fellow officers and, most importantly, his soldiers. He has all the qualities of a good general and is a brave veteran who understands the experience of our nation’s service members, both here at home and on the battlefield. I wish him all the best in his new assignment,” said Sen. Shelley Moore Capito.

Gilliam has served in both the U.S. Army and the the WV National Guard.

Gilliam’s deployments include Haiti, Iraq and Afghanistan. He has been awarded two Bronze Star Medals, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Army Commendation Medal, the Combat Infantryman Badge and the Master Parachutist Badge.
