Man killed by troopers inside Elkins residence

ELKINS, W.Va. — A man was shot and killed late Friday night after pointing a gun at state police troopers, state police said.

Two troopers were helping Elkins police execute a search warrant at a residence on Ward Avenue at 11:45 p.m. when they encountered William Keith Waldron, 26, armed with a shotgun.

Waldron immediately pointed the gun at troopers, according to a release from state police. Troopers fired at Waldron, who was pronounced dead at Davis Memorial Hospital a short time later.

Randolph County sheriff’s deputies were also on the scene.

An investigation into the shooting was underway.
