Brooke’s Cole reflects on flip from Akron to Wake Forest

WELLSBURG, W.Va. — Brooke receiver Thomas Cole’s senior season has propelled him to a spot in a Power-5 conference.

The 6-foot-5 standout recently flipped his verbal commitment from Akron to Wake Forest after the Demon Deacons jumped into the recruiting process, eventually offering a scholarship in late December.

“When I committed to Akron, I was really excited – they’re a great school and I appreciate them believing in me,” Cole said. “But when Wake Forest offered me, it’s just hard not to go to a school like that. It’s ACC football and then academically, it’s a top 30 school in the nation. Even after football, I’m pretty much set with a degree from Wake. I’m truly blessed and excited.”

Cole finished this past season with 77 catches for 936 yards and nine touchdowns, to go along with 124 rushing yards and another score on the ground.

“I’m for sure going to be playing at tight end (at Wake Forest),” Cole said. “They have an all-ACC tight end right now who is going to be a junior. It will be great learning from a kid like that. It will be a lot different because I played receiver all four years in high school. But I believe I can play tight end. I’m built for it and I’m excited to make the position change and learn all of the new things and little things about it.

“I’m going to be playing against the best players in the country,” he continued. “It all starts right now for me. I have to be in the weight room. Mentally and physically I have to be prepared. I know I’m not there yet, but I believe the first time I step on the field for Wake, I’ll be prepared.”

The complete interview with Cole is posted above.
