Eastern panhandle prepares for potential Jonas knockout punch

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — West Virginia’s eastern panhandle could end up getting the most accumulation out of Winter Storm Jonas.

The snow is expected to begin Friday morning, according to meteorologists.

“It looks like it overspreads the area (Friday morning),” Accuweather Meteorologist Bill Dager told MetroNews affiliate WEPM in Martinsburg. “It falls heavy at times as we head into (Friday) afternoon and evening.”

Total snowfall could reach two to three feet by storms end on Saturday.

“We’re going to start pre-treating (Thursday),” Joe Castaldo with the state Division of Highways said.

Crews have already broken into their 12-hour shifts, according to Castaldo.

“We’ll be out there until it is gone,” he said.
